How Therapy for Men Can Help

Therapy gives you a place to think out loud with someone trained to help you sort it out. You’ll work on what’s in front of you, like the short fuse, a lack of intimacy, the sleepless nights or the distance at home, and you’ll check in together on what’s changing.

What Brings Men to Therapy

Stress that won't shut off

Work and responsibility follow you home. Sleep gets thin and patience gets short.

Anger, or going quiet

You blow up or you shut down, and neither one gets you what you want.

Relationships that feel stuck

The same fight on repeat, distance with your partner, or a breakup you can’t shake.

Why Men Choose Just Mind

We have male therapists on our team, and every therapist on this page works with men’s issues every week. Sessions are a conversation, not an interrogation, and you’ll leave with something to try before the next one.

If the first match isn’t right, tell us. We’ll find someone who is.

What We Help Men With

Men come to us for all kinds of reasons. Some of the most common:

  • Anxiety, stress and burnout
  • Depression, or feeling flat and unmotivated
  • Anger and irritability
  • Marriage, dating and relationship problems
  • Divorce and starting over
  • Becoming a dad, or parenting when it’s hard
  • Grief and loss
  • Career changes and questions about purpose
  • Drinking or other habits you want to get a handle on
  • Trauma, including things you’ve never told anyone

If it’s weighing on you, it’s worth talking about. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start.

Prefer a group? The Grounded Man Group is an ongoing therapy group for men that meets Monday evenings at our South Austin office. It adds new members as spots open, so ask about the next one.

Get Matched With a Therapist Who Fits

Tell our client care team what’s going on and what you want out of therapy. A real person reads it, suggests a few therapists and explains why each one fits. Most new clients have a first appointment within a few days.

What Therapy Looks Like Here

Your first few sessions

The first session is mostly you talking and your therapist listening. They’ll ask what brought you in, what you’ve already tried and what you’d like to be different. From there you set goals together and decide how often to meet. Most people start weekly.

How we work

Our therapists use approaches with solid research behind them, including CBT, EMDR, IFS, the Gottman Method and Somatic Experiencing. In plain terms, you’ll figure out what’s driving the pattern and get tools to change it. Some men want to understand themselves better. Others want a plan. Most want a bit of both.

Not sure where to start? Our client care team can help you figure it out.

Cost and Insurance

Just Mind is in network with Aetna, Curative, EHN, Harbor Health, Nomi Health and Sana. Self-pay sessions run $145 to $215 depending on the therapist, and we can give you a superbill if you want to use out-of-network benefits. See rates and insurance for details.

Online or In Person, Your Call

Every therapist here offers online sessions anywhere in Texas. Many also see clients at our North Austin and South Austin offices, with evening and weekend times.

Short on time?

Online sessions skip the drive. Plenty of men take them from a parked car on a lunch break or from home after the kids are in bed. Learn more about online therapy.

Therapy for Men FAQs

No. Some men prefer a man and some don’t care either way. Tell our client care team what you’d like and they’ll match you. You can switch any time.

That’s common, and it’s fine. Your therapist will ask questions and help you sort out what matters. Plenty of men start with “something feels off” and go from there.

The basics are the same. What changes is the fit. Many men do best with a direct style, clear goals and a therapist who won’t force a conversation that doesn’t feel natural. We match for that.

Yes. All of our therapists offer online sessions anywhere in Texas, and many also see clients in person at our North Austin and South Austin offices.

It depends on what you’re working on. Some men come for a few months to deal with one problem. Others stay longer. You and your therapist will check in on progress and adjust.
