Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in Austin, TX

Slow down the fight. Find the longing underneath.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a short-term, research-backed approach rooted in attachment science. Most couples feel real shifts in how they fight and reconnect within 8 to 20 sessions. We also use EFT with individuals and families to repair attachment wounds and change the emotional patterns that keep showing up. Our EFT therapists see clients in Austin at our North Austin and Westlake offices, and online anywhere in Texas.

Reach for each other again after months or years of drift.

Repairing after an affair or betrayal

EFT offers a careful, staged path for rebuilding trust and secure connection.

Premarital and newly committed couples

Learn to tend the bond before it becomes brittle.

Individual attachment work

For when the pattern follows you into every relationship. See anxious attachment therapy.

Why People Choose Just Mind

Our client care team listens to what’s going on and matches you with a therapist trained in EFT. A real person does the matching, not an algorithm.

Just Mind is independently owned, and we’re with you until it clicks.

Get Matched With an EFT Therapist

Tell our client care team what’s going on and what you’d like from therapy. A real person reads it and matches you with a therapist trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Most new clients have a first appointment within a few days.

How EFT Works

Stage 1: De-escalation

Together we identify your negative cycle, the pursue and withdraw or criticize and defend pattern, and the raw emotions driving it. Naming the dance lowers the heat.

Stage 2: Restructuring

Each partner reaches for the softer, more vulnerable emotions underneath. New conversations become possible, ones where longing can be heard instead of attacked.

Stage 3: Consolidation

You rehearse the new patterns, revisit old problems from a stronger place, and leave with a secure base you can return to.

What to Expect

Your first few sessions

The first one to three sessions of EFT are usually assessment. We meet together, then with each partner individually, to map the cycle, understand each person’s history, and screen for anything that would make couples work unsafe (ongoing violence, an affair that has not ended, untreated addiction). You will leave the assessment phase with a clear sense of your pattern and how we will work with it.

How we match you

Tell us what’s going on through our new client form or by phone. A real person on our client care team reads it and matches you with a therapist trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy who fits what you shared.

We see clients in person in North Austin and Westlake and online anywhere in Texas. See rates and insurance for what we take.

Not sure where to start? Our client care team can help you find the right fit.

EFT FAQs

EFT is a structured, attachment-based therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. It helps couples, families and individuals understand the emotional cycle behind conflict or distance, and build a more secure connection.

No. EFT started as couples therapy, and it is also used with individuals and with families. Individual EFT is a good fit for anxious attachment and repeating relationship patterns.

Most couples work through EFT in 8 to 20 sessions, depending on how stuck the cycle is and what else is going on.

Both are well-researched couples approaches. EFT focuses on the emotions and attachment needs underneath your fights. The Gottman Method is more skills-forward, with an assessment and tools you practice at home. Some of our therapists draw on both, and we can help you choose.

Yes. We offer EFT online anywhere in Texas, and in person at our North Austin (Spicewood Springs) and Westlake offices.
