For the people whose emotions have always felt one or two notches louder than everyone else's.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) was developed by Marsha Linehan for people whose feelings move faster than their skills to handle them. If relationships blow up when you did not mean them to, if small triggers run away with your day, if you have been told you are too much by people who should have known better, DBT builds a specific set of skills for exactly that.
It is one of the most-researched therapies in the field, and it does not require that anything be wrong with you to work. It requires practice.
Takes 2 to 3 minutes. A real person reads what you share and suggests two or three therapists who fit, usually within 24 hours.

You might find DBT useful if…
Where DBT skills tend to help most
- Your reactions outpace your control, and you only see them clearly afterward.
- Relationships feel high-stakes and often blow up or go quiet.
- You have been told you are "too sensitive," "too intense," or "too much" by people whose opinion you took seriously.
- Shame, emptiness, or self-criticism can run the day.
- You have had thoughts of self-harm, or you use food, drinking, or other behaviors to turn the volume down.
- You have a diagnosis (borderline personality, bipolar II, PTSD, substance use) and your therapist mentioned DBT skills would help.
The four skill modules
DBT teaches practical skills across four areas. Most people need all four, but one or two usually hit hardest at first.
Mindfulness
Noticing what is actually happening in your body and mind right now, instead of being swept away by it. The foundation the other three skills sit on.
Distress Tolerance
Getting through a crisis without making it worse. Specific skills for the moments when the urge to escape is loudest and the tools you usually reach for are the ones costing you most.
Emotion Regulation
Understanding what emotions are for, which ones you are prone to, and how to change the ones that do not fit the situation. Not suppression. Regulation.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Asking for what you need, saying no, keeping your self-respect, and protecting the relationships you care about. The skills that reduce the number of blow-ups that end up on your mental shelf.
Formats we offer
Individual DBT-informed therapy
One-on-one sessions with a therapist trained in DBT skills, folded into the work you are already doing on your life, relationships, and history.
DBT skills coaching
Focused work on learning and practicing the four skill modules, with between-session practice built in.
Online across Texas
Every DBT-trained therapist on our team offers telehealth sessions anywhere in Texas, in addition to in-person at our Austin offices.
Full comprehensive DBT programs include a weekly group plus phone coaching between sessions. We do not offer the comprehensive program on-site right now; if that is the level of care you need, we will tell you and help you find it.
What this costs
$145 to $215 per 50-minute session. Weekly to start, moving to biweekly once the skills are landing.
We are in network with Aetna, Curative, EHN, Harbor Health, Nomi Health, and Sana. For self-pay clients we provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Full details on our Rates & Insurance page.
Risks and limits
DBT asks you to practice skills between sessions. The work moves at the pace of the practice. If you are in a stretch where that is not realistic, we will say so and either slow the pace or recommend a different approach for right now.
If what is actually running the show is active substance use, an eating disorder, or a safety-level mental-health crisis, DBT may be the right skill set but we may need to coordinate with other providers before starting. Call 512-843-7665 and we will route you to the right place.
