Counselor:

Adults, Couples, Families, Teens

Kari Somera is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), licensed in both Texas and Oregon. She has worked in the mental health field for the past 20+ years and spent the last several in private practice. Kari understands that counseling can feel vulnerable, and it takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out for support. As a therapist, she provides her clients a safe space to be open, real, and imperfect; for you to come just as you are without shame or judgment.

Kari’s experience and training includes working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. She works with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma and attachment, marital concerns, family of origin, conflict resolution, adjustment to life transitions, spirituality and faith issues, self-esteem issues, and sexuality and sexual identity issues. Kari utilizes an integrated approach to counseling using methods such as Interpersonal Therapy, Attachment Theory, Trauma Informed Care, Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method for couples.

Kari is passionate about holistic health and living in integrated wholeness: mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Therefore, she partners with her clients in their healing journey to identify overarching issues that impact their day-to-day life and supports them in accomplishing their short-term and long-term goals. Her desire is to empower her clients toward personal growth and transformation from the inside out, so they can live in freedom and in the fullness of who they are meant to be.

Why Therapy?

I knew at 16 years old that it was my calling to be a therapist. Through my own personal healing journey and my passion for people, I knew I wanted to support and empower others to live in true healing, freedom and self-acceptance.

Professional Motivation

I love the “aha moments” that client’s experience in their personal growth and transformation. I love hearing the stories and experiences of what makes the person who they are. I love helping clients process their past, to embrace their present, and have hopes and dreams for their future. I feel so honored and privileged to walk with my clients in their pain, suffering, joys, victories, and all the other things they may experience. I don’t take it for granted.

Education

Bachelors in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University in Southern, California; Masters in Counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.

I love nature and outdoor activities: hiking, camping, paddle boarding, cross country skiing. I love coffee, reading, quality time with friends and family, traveling and adventuring with my husband.
