Why Therapy?

Some of my earliest memories from middle school are of our group of friends supporting each other through challenges, trauma, and life hurts. Unbeknown to me at the time, these experiences and connections laid the foundation for my becoming a therapist. Once at the University, I found myself in the field of Social Work, once again supporting people through life circumstances and helping them face injustices. Working with individuals and families provided the insight that most people have experienced some kind of hurt and/or trauma. I also observed that the world expected everyone to just keep going while simultaneously seeing the importance of needing to stop and heal. Providing therapy is my way of being the support and connection that helps people to stop and heal.

Professional Motivation

I love seeing people reach their “aha” moment, when they realize they are not to blame for what happened to them and they are not whatever negative message was handed to them. I enjoy seeing people develop themselves in the ways the want, begin to realize a different potential, and embrace a new understanding of themselves. I also enjoy seeing people being proud of themselves for trying something new, implementing a strategy that increases connection in their relationships, and learning more about themselves.

Education

BSW and MSSW from U.T. Austin School of Social Work.

Hobbies

I like to workout in a variety of ways including running, zumba, and weight training. I enjoy watching game shows, guess the music shows, and rom-coms. I also enjoy singing along to music.

Previous Occupations

While in high school I worked at an automotive retail shop and then in college worked at a jewelry shop and a Montessori school. Since starting my career as a social worker, I have worked as a Family and Community Support Specialist at a head start program, as a therapist at a domestic violence and sexual assault resource center, a social service coordinator at a civil rights organization, a lecturer at the University level, as Clinical Director at a non-profit, and have had a private practice.
