Jessica Wansart, LCSW-S

(She/Her)  |

Counselor:

Adults

Jessica is a licensed clinical social worker with over 10 years of experience working in non-profit, community mental health, and integrative medical and behavioral health settings. Jessica is certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and uses somatic and other experiential modalities to offer a different kind of therapy experience. She specializes in supporting people struggling with the lingering impacts of trauma, difficult early experiences, perfectionism, negative self-talk, stress management, and life transitions. Additionally, she works with folks wanting to explore and better understand different aspects of their identity, lived experience, and/or their inner world.

Jessica’s work is rooted in the knowledge that insight alone is not enough to support the healing and shifting of old, deep patterns. She is often a particularly good fit for folks who may be hesitant about therapy or who have tried traditional therapy models and want help shifting things on a deeper level than past talk therapy has allowed. Jessica helps clients pause and get curious about what is held more deeply on an emotional, body-based, and implicit level – in the places that live beyond words. She balances creating enough safety to access patterns of the past, while staying rooted in the present in a way that opens the door for lasting change.

Jessica’s approach is warm, collaborative, curious and creative. While she believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship as a catalyst for healing and transformation, she does not take safety or trust for granted, but rather works to build them over time and at each client’s own pace.

Why Therapy?

I spent many years trying to find my way as a young person. I have always been drawn to wanting to understand how we make sense of and ultimately feel more at ease with ourselves, our relationships with others, and our place in the world. I’ve had my own experiences with the kind of deeper healing that is possible when our whole selves are taken into consideration vs being reduced to a set of physical or emotional symptoms, and I am passionate about being a part of supporting that journey for others.

Professional Motivation

I love the process of supporting healing, change, and ultimately the kind of transformation that is possible when we have the support and accompaniment we need to process experiences of harm and reconnect with our innate capacities for wisdom, health, wholeness, and connection. I love the slow dance of trust-building and safety-making. I love accompanying folks in building access to new experiences – both within themselves and in how they are in connection to other individuals, their communities, and the world around them.

Education

I received my BA in Religious Studies from Colby College. There, I focused on exploring the connection between spirituality, wellbeing, and integrative and holistic health.

I received my Master of Science in Social Work with a Clinical Concentration from The University of Texas at Austin.

Hobbies

I enjoy being creative, connecting with friends and loved ones, moving my body, and being outside (when the Austin allergies are not getting the best of me).

Previous Occupations

Over the course of my career I’ve worked at a variety of non-profit, community mental health, and integrative medical and behavioral health settings. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the service industry, at an environmental start-up, and at an eco-friendly auto repair shop.
