Gabi Ghag, LPC-Associate | Grief & Trauma Counselor in Austin | Just Mind

(She/Her)  |

Counselor:

Adults, Teens

With a warm and compassionate presence, Gabi creates an inclusive and non-judgmental space that is affirming and emphasizes self-compassion. She cultivates a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients rooted in authenticity, mutual empathy, and empowerment. Recognizing that therapy is not a “one size fits all” experience, Gabi adapts her approach to fit each client’s personal needs. Her clinical work is informed by Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT), parts work (Internal Family Systems – IFS), interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, narrative therapy, and somatic work. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy) to reduce the emotional impact of traumatic events.

In addition to working with trauma, Gabi supports adults and teens facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, identity exploration, and life transitions. She is also passionate about supporting clients navigating intercultural/interfaith relationships, grief and loss, family-of-origin wounds, and cultural and immigration concerns.

Gabi is dedicated to providing care that is trauma-informed and anti-oppressive, and she works to connect with and understand her clients from a place of cultural humility that honors their unique selves. She works to embolden her clients to unashamedly explore the parts of themselves that may be impeding their growth and healing, and guides them to tap into their innate resiliency.

Gabi is supervised by Kimberley Mead, LPC-S.

Why Therapy?

It took going through my own personal experiences with therapy, enduring losses, and creating new (healthy) relationships to come to the realization that I wanted to pursue a career in mental health. I found that sitting with someone who is trustworthy and who listens without judgement, gives a person the freedom to be their most vulnerable and authentic self; and for me, when this happened, growth, healing, and self-discovery followed. I became a therapist to do this for others — to be the person sitting across the room (or on the other side of the computer screen) who’s ready to join you as you embark on the beautiful (and sometimes messy) journey called therapy.

Professional Motivation

There is nothing more fulfilling or rewarding than being a part of a process where a client grows from a place of surviving towards a place of thriving. It’s truly a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they process and work-through the difficult things, the mundane things, and the things worth celebrating.

Education

Master of Arts in Professional Counseling – Texas State University.

Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies, emphasis in Anthropology, English, & International Studies with a minor in Sociology – University of North Texas.

Hobbies

In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, losing myself in whatever book I’m currently reading, catching the latest Bollywood or South Indian film, and spending time with friends and family. I also love to travel, appreciate art wherever I can find it, and indulge in new cuisines. But most nights, you can find me cuddled up on the couch with my husband and 2 cats either catching up on the (many) TV series we’ve started but haven’t yet finished, or cheering on our favorite football/soccer/cricket team.

Previous Occupations

Prior to becoming a therapist, I’ve worked in many different areas in a “helper” capacity, such as working as an health unit coordinator for both a hospital and an outpatient cancer clinic, as an overseas Au-Pair, a family nanny, volunteer for a non-profit/humanitarian organization, a scheduler, as well as other various roles in the customer service industry. I’ve also provided counseling services at a local non-profit, juvenile and adult correctional facilities, and university-level clinics.
