Andrea Chavez, LMFT Associate

(She/Her)  |

Counselor:

Adults, Couples, Families, Teens

Andrea believes relationships of all kinds are central and essential in our lives. She strives to have a collaborative relationship with her clients, as she believes that people are experts of their own stories, and her job is to help them uncover the best for themselves. Andrea believes that self-understanding and self-compassion are foundational to personal growth. She creates a warm, therapeutic environment and ensures that every client feels heard in their unique struggles.

Andrea works with couples, families, adults, and teens who are experiencing relationship concerns (romantic, platonic, and/or familial), life transitions, anxiety, and immigration stress. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Her practice is informed by attachment and psychodynamic theories, as well as internal family systems (IFS) and emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Andrea’s dedication to supporting couples at the start of their journey led her to become a facilitator for a premarital program, which offers couples assessment tools to help them identify areas of growth and strength.

The interactions we have with each other can be very influential in how we think, behave, and react. Because of this, Andrea utilizes a client-centered approach with a systemic lens specifically fostering the relationships she creates with her clients. As the saying goes, people do not exist in a vacuum, and Andrea stands behind that!

Andrea is supervised by Brittany Whallen, LMFT-S.

Why Therapy?

For as long as I can remember, I have always been drawn to understanding and appreciating relationship dynamics. As I became exposed to more experiences and opportunities, I realized that I was passionate about working on a small scale with individuals and family units to create an impactful change in their lives.

Professional Motivation

One of the most rewarding things about this work is that we get to hold space for people when they need it and witness the growth they experience over time. This often results in people getting to know and understand themselves better, which I am honored to have a small role in.

Education

B.A. in Psychology from New York University; M.S. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Couple and Family Therapy from Chestnut Hill College

Hobbies

I really enjoy going on walks with my dog, baking, and watching competition cooking shows.

Previous Occupations

Before my time as a therapist, I held a number of odd jobs, such as social media marketing for a private practice, logistics procurement for the City of Austin, and administrative assistant for the graduate psychology department of Chestnut Hill College.
