Courtney Garcia Puckett, LPC

(She/Her)  |

Counselor:

Adults, Teens

Regardless of what issues her clients might be facing, Courtney approaches her work with compassion, empathy, and understanding. She honors her clients’ needs above all else and collaborates with them to work toward their goals at their own pace. Courtney uses Relational-Cultural methodology in her work, often drawing from Somatic Experiencing therapy. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy) and utilizes that in her work with clients around PTSD and trauma.

Her areas of practice include anxiety, chronic stress, perfectionism, life changes, emotional regulation, creating healthy boundaries, grief and shame (as well as how they intersect), and trauma, particularly as it relates to childhood or familial relationships. Courtney specializes in working with people who identify with being the “black sheep” of their family or otherwise feel like outcasts, helping them to reclaim their voice and sense of self while gently unpacking their past.

Many of her clients are members of the BIPOC community, and she is LGBTQIA+ affirming and sex/kink positive. As a working-class Latinx therapist, Courtney intrinsically understands the frustration and confusion that often comes when exploring the deepest, most painful parts of ourselves, especially when society labels us as “other.” She’s passionate about holding a safe space for her clients to experience that process, whatever it may look like for them.

Why Therapy?

I strive to be the person that I needed the most back then. I firmly believe that my path in healing my own trauma would be so different had I not found a therapist who truly heard me and supported me. I want to instill hope in others in a world that can oftentimes feel hopeless.

Professional Motivation

Getting to witness others reclaim their own voice that has been silenced or shamed for so long.

Education

Master of Arts in Counseling, St. Edward’s University; Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Development, Texas State University

Hobbies

I love to travel with my husband and firmly believe that the outdoors in any capacity can be so healing. My favorite things to do are hiking with my dog Ellie, swimming, singing, reading, and binge watching my favorite TV shows.

Previous Occupations

I’ve worked with children throughout most of my adulthood and I’ve loved it! I’ve worked with Communities in Schools, worked with at-risk youth in a residential treatment facility, and more recently was a Montessori Teacher. When I wasn’t working with kids, I was a stable hand taking care of horses for several years, which I hope to someday come full circle and incorporate into my work as a therapist.
