Tina Karagulian, LCSW | Couples & Adult Counselor in Austin | Just Mind

(She/Her)  |

Counselor:

Adults, Couples

Tina has over 25 years of experience working with adults, particularly around areas related to life transition and finding purpose, women’s issues, trauma, codependency, anxiety, grief, and self worth. Tina approaches the therapeutic relationship with gentleness, compassion, and clarity, while supporting clients’ personal growth and well-being.

Tina views counseling as a collaborative process and holds a safe space to explore her client’s truths and creativity. She embraces a client’s curiosity and nonjudgmentally guides the therapy work to help untangle thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that may be holding them back. This approach also extends to her work with couples in helping them work towards increased closeness and better communication. She utilizes an EFT based approach in her couples work.

Tina believes that our bodies and emotions often provide us with information, and she works alongside her clients to find the unique wisdom they each possess within themselves. She enjoys incorporating cognitive strategies with mindfulness, somatic techniques, expressive arts techniques, EFT tapping, breath meditation, and inner connection. Tina feels honored to support clients in experiencing their natural alignment and self-discovery while empowering them to live their best lives.

Why Therapy?

Therapy is a place to learn more about what makes you truly tick, to enjoy learning to grow, and to know that you can stand tall after parts of you that you no longer need unravel around you. I strive to create a safe space for you to explore who you are emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. On my own journey, I have found that those who have held a safe space for me, and who have had deep presence and compassion, helped me to grow those areas within me. I offer that for you, sitting with you as you make discoveries until you no longer need the external container. Therapy is a place to practice your voice, find your empowerment, and strengthen your inner knowing and wisdom as you unify within you.

Professional Motivation

I believe in each of us living a fully empowered life. Exploring what is hidden from our awareness, what is in our shadow, is courageous inner work. Shifting from judgement to curiosity is a change in perspective, and even if it takes a bit of time, the unfolding of your unique journey of discovery is worth it. I am always grateful for and in awe of this sacred process, and the wonderful “aha’s” that have yet to emerge.

Education

Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston University, and a B.S. degree in Clinical Psychology from Tufts University.

Hobbies

I am an artist who paints on canvas and writes poetry. I love the creative arts and understand the process of being stuck creatively and how to jumpstart that flow. I also love singing, music of all kinds, nature, birds, the ocean, contemplation, and quiet moments of meditation.

Previous Occupations

I have been a hostess, editor, photographer, counselor in private practice, UNIX instructor, art teacher, college professor, yoga teacher, retreat facilitator, and long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my Jedi training included making root beer floats and banana splits at a local, family restaurant.
