Ian‘s passion lies in working with couples on their communication, intimacy issues, conflict management, trauma, and life transitions. Ian also enjoys working with gay men both as couples as well as individuals, where he helps them through such issues as coming out, family trauma, parental abuse, love addiction, and substance abuse. Ian has extensive experience in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, the Gottman Model, family systems, love addiction work, and substance abuse. Ian’s warm, empathic, and inviting nature provides space for clients to feel safe enough to be authentic while also providing ways to gently challenge in order to bring about change and growth.

  • What is your educational background?

    Southern Methodist University (MS in Counseling), University of Houston (BS in Psychology, minor in Philosophy), Lone Star College (AAS).

  • How long have you been doing counseling?

    I began my Practicum in August 2015 (which lasted until October 2016) and became licensed in February of 2017.

  • What do you love most about what you do?

    There is no greater gratification in knowing that you have helped and in some cases saved people. Simply providing a safe space for someone who needs it makes me feel full of purpose.

  • What previous jobs have you held?

    In my adult years of being self-reliant and putting myself through both undergrad and grad school, I have been a realtor/apartment locator, a doctor’s assistant, a front desk manager, a laboratory manager, and various positions in retail.

    Houston, Texas

  • What made you decide to become a therapist?

    A culmination of diverse life stages and experiences as well as an innate gift of conveying warmth and empathy. I have known since I was 17 that I have wanted to be in this profession, so to say that therapy is my passion would be an understatement.

  • Hobbies

    Concerts, traveling, roadtrips, plays, operas, writing, and collecting films.

  • Where do you want to travel?

    I would go back to London (my favorite city in the world!)
