Gregory Spayd, LPC

Counselor: Couples, Adults, Seniors

Since his counseling career began in 2000, Gregory’s love of people and passion for the empowerment of his clients has driven his work. He sees his role as a therapist as being a fully engaged, consistent, and dedicated professional with the capacity to objectively and carefully listen, ask salient questions, and assist his clients in determining their goals for therapy. He believes that people generally underestimate their innate abilities for self-healing. By introducing and discussing scientifically based, effective, mainstream therapies in the treatment of his clients, he assists his clients in understanding the major role they play in their own healing. Gregory believes that an informed and active client is an empowered client. In his many years as a therapist, he has worked with adults, couples, and groups in private practice and in higher education.

Gregory uses a number of different approaches with clients who have an interest in healing, deepening their understanding of self and their relationships, and increasing meaning in their lives. He also specializes in working with people living with chronic illness as well as those seeking counseling for trauma, issues concerning sexuality, depression, life changes, and anxiety. Though his orientation is Existential Humanism, he employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Strengths-Based Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and he has completed Level Two of Gottman Method training for couples counseling.
